The first Lincoln to be named the Town Car was introduced in 1981. Since then it has adopted assorted interpretations of the square, upright styling that had been a Lincoln trademark since the early 60s. All that changed in 1998 with the arrival of a completely new Town Car that stylishly mixed traditional Lincoln luxury with a contemporary new chassis and exterior. The Town Car retained its V8 powered rear drive configuration, while incorporating numerous chassis, body, and interior changes to produce a car that was over 80 percent new. For 2003, the Lincoln flagship has been redesigned once again, providing a more formal exterior; a new frame and suspension designed to improve ride and handling; a number of new features; and 44% more stowage space inside. The new 2003 Town Car went on sale in the spring of 2002.
