Buick introduced its sixth-generation Regal on the World Wide Web-which indicates this cars target market: men and women in their forties who, according to Buick, are much younger than the typical Buick buyer. Introduced in spring of 1997, this totally redesigned Regal-available only as a 4-door sedan-replaces the variant of the GM-10 platform introduced in 1988. Its maker refers to the Regal as a sport sedan, a point emphasized by its simple lines, lack of chrome trim, and non-availability of a bench seat. Regals were originally 2-door models, the most famous of which was the turbocharged Regal GNX coupe-in its time one of the fastest production cars available in the U.S.
