The first Lincoln to be named the Town Car was introduced in 1981. Since then it has adopted assorted interpretations of the square, upright styling that had been a Lincoln trademark since the early 60s. All that changed in 1998 with the arrival of a completely new Town Car that stylishly mixed traditional Lincoln luxury with a contemporary new chassis and exterior. The newest Town Car retained its V8-powered rear-drive configuration, while incorporating numerous chassis, body, and interior changes to produce a car that is over 80 percent new. Attracting both the traditional Lincoln owner as well as a new generation of buyers who consider style just as important as comfort and luxury was one of the goals of the most recent Town Car redesign.
